Psychologists need to explain their therapeutic approach and help you to understand the potential risks, as well as gains, involved in engaging in services.
My practice draws on skills, tools and techniques from a variety of therapeutic frameworks and modalities, including:
Compassion Focused Therapy
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
Dialectic Behavioural Therapy
Solution-Focused Therapy
Interpersonal Psychotherapy
Emotion Focused Therapy
Gottman’s Therapy
Brief Intervention Therapy
Registered Psychologists are only to work within their field of expertise and training. As a Registered Clinical Psychologist, I work with clients around issues such as:
Grief and loss
Low mood
Sexual functioning
Trauma
Problems with managing work based relationships and dynamics
Having difficult conversations with people who are important to you
Navigating mid-life concerns, and addressing complex interpersonal problems you may be experiencing with parents, colleagues, friends, and partners.
Irritability
Excessive worry
Significant life transitions (e.g., divorce, job change, retirement, empty nest, career reconsideration)
Romantic relationship problems (conflict management, infidelity, ambiguity about being in it/leaving it, dating worries, pre-cohabitating concerns)
Burnout (early, mid and late career professionals)
Managing unhealthy reactions (e.g., passive-aggressive behaviour)
I tailor every session to suit the specific therapy goals and individual needs of each client. My approach is a mix of coaching (education), mentoring (facilitation) and therapy (counselling).
Out of session practice is encouraged as a way of helping you to consolidate the insights you gain in our time together. This could look like listening to a podcast episode, watching a YouTube video, or participating in an experiential activity to practice skills. It is entirely your decision the extent to which you choose to engage in these additional components – spending 50 minutes in session working towards your goals is the baseline and everything extra that you do is likely to hasten progress.
At every step of the way, I approach our working relationship as a collaborator, understanding that while I have years of insight into working with the mind, you have years of insight into working with YOUR mind.
Together, we work to develop and implement problem solving and proactive strategies to tackle the unique challenges and fears which are getting in the way of you living a more fulfilled and contented life.
